RIDE LEADER DUTIES
1. The Ride Leader is the Club’s point person for the scheduled club ride. A
volunteer Ride Leader will be listed on the club website for each scheduled club
ride.
2. A scheduled club ride is one that is listed on the club web site.
3. All riders will adhere to the Ride Leader’s instructions.
4. The Ride Leader must show-up at a scheduled ride at least 15 minutes prior to
the start time.
5. Rides will start at the designated “wheels-down’ time. Any exceptions must be
approved by the Ride Leader.
6. The Ride Leader will give an appropriate safety briefing to all riders prior
to the ride start. Topics to include:
a. Emergency cell phone numbers
b. Safety equipment – helmets, lights (if needed), etc.
c. SAG vehicle (if available)
d. Known hazards along the route
e. Rest stop & "Rally Points"
f. What to do if a rider gets lost / separated from the group
7. The Ride Leader will provide route maps (if available) or explain the
route to all riders prior to the ride start; However, ride maps are NOT to be
used as a substitute for the Ride Leader ensuring that all riders are accounted
for during the ride or for having designated "rally points" (see #9 below).
8. The Ride Leader will take a head count of all riders. Riders are to be
briefed that if they breakaway from the group they will inform the Ride Leader
of their status and location so that all riders can be accounted for at the
conclusion of the ride.
9. The Ride Leader will ensure that designated "Rally
points" along the route are clerly explained to each rider. Riders will stop at
these points and re-group so that no rider id left behind. These Rally
Points should be clearly identifiable gas stations, convenience stores,
landmarks or major intersections along the route.
10. The SAG vehicle (if available) will follow the Ride Leader’s instructions.
11. If a new or inexperienced rider is present, the Ride Leader will ask for an
experienced rider to stay with and assist that new rider. In the event nobody
volunteers, the Ride Leader will select an experienced rider to assume this
responsibility. Care should be taken not to select the same experienced rider
each time unless he / she volunteers.
12. The Ride Leader will not leave the ride start / finish location until all
riders have returned / are accounted for.
