General Club Ride Information
This section gives information about how we organize and conduct our local club
rides. Please read the information below. We have about 10 local ride routes at
locations all over the greater San Antonio area and we attempt to alternate
these rides each weekend so that no one club member has to drive across town to
get to a ride location. If you have any ideas about a ride route please let us
know.
All rides to be led by the ride organizer (R/O) listed below each scheduled ride
above. Please contact the R/O directly if you have any questions prior to a
ride.
Ride Lengths:
Although a ride length may be listed on the ride schedule, it’s only a guideline
of distances designed to give newer riders a logical progression and a gradually
increasing degree of difficulty (more hills!). The R/O for each ride may decide
on a shorter or less difficult ride depending upon the experience levels of
riders who show-up for that ride. Bottom line…If you want to do a shorter ride,
we’ll accommodate you one way or another! Likewise, if you want to go farther
then we will have somebody go with you…Nobody ever says “I want to do more
hills" - If you do, we’ll refer you to a good Psychiatrist!
Weather:
Sunny – Rides are always a “go”;
Light rain – Rides are a “go”;
Heavy / steady rain – ride is most likely cancelled, call R/O to be sure; Wind –
no problem!;
Snow, golf ball size hail, ice storm, tornado, meteor shower, or other abnormal
event – consider ride cancelled and take shelter!!!
Safety & Equipment:
The Cool Cats are all about safety. You must were a helmet and ride in a safe
and responsible manner. If you’re a new rider we’ll teach you the Texas traffic
laws as they pertain to cyclists and also the hand/arm signals and verbal
commands to warn other road users and cyclists or your intentions and road
hazards, etc. (for more on this see our Safety Stuff page). Carry at least one
(two recommended) water bottles and a spare inner tube. In the summer months
wearing a good sunblock and sport sunglasses is also a good idea. If you don’t
know how to fix flats don’t worry, our experienced riders will help you!
